Wineries in Banhoek Valley

Epic wine farms between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek

Initially, I wanted to share four or five wine farms that are situated close to us, but there are so many that I had to expand my list. All of them offer a different experience and their wines are all amazing! To our delight, most of the wines produced in the Banhoek Valley (or as locals would like to call it, the Dwarsriver Valley) have earned international awards.

These wine farms have great restaurants too and you can read all about them in our previous blog post.

Let’s start with some epic wine farms between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

Tokara wine estate

Tokara must be one of my personal favourites in the area. Not only are they nestled on a hill overlooking Table Mountain, but they also have amazing wines. Their wine range includes a Premium Collection, Reserve Collection, and Directors Reserve Collection. You also have access to the fermentation cellar, where you may ask about their wine-making process. A must-visit as they were voted as one of the World’s Best Vineyards. Besides the wine tasting, there are olive oil and brandy tastings too! Read the story behind their wines

Delaire Graff Estate

Delaire means ‘from the sky’, and the wines they craft are “an invitation to savour this unique piece of heaven and earth in Stellenbosch.” as explained by Laurence Graff, Jeweller and Owner of Delaire Graff Estate. The estate has been named one of the Top 50 wineries by the World’s Best Vineyards and you will taste their sophisticated elegance in their wines. Situated opposite Tokara on the Botmaskop mountain. Delaire also boasts beautiful art collections and is definitely “The Jewel of the Cape Winelands”

Zorgvliet wine estate

Zorgvliet produces three ranges of wine, from premium Grand Cuvée, flagship Zorgvliet, and everyday Silver Myn range. These include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, and red blends.
Wine Tasting is offered in the original Cape Dutch Manor House, which dated back to 1692.

Le Pommier wine estate

Enjoy wine tastings, wine pairing, and even kiddies’ pairings. Le Pommier wines boast quite a long list of awards. Worth a try and is only 2 kilometers from Staymore Guesthouse!

Boschendal

The farm has a winemaking tradition spanning over 330 years. Boschendal embraces sustainability techniques across the farm and cellar practices. Sit back and enjoy a beautiful Méthode Cap Classique sparkling wine. According to Bottlebooks.wosa, the gracious national treasure is a familiar favourite to many and a glorious discovery for countless others.

Oldenburg Vineyards

Situated off the beaten track through a winding road, Oldenburg wines benefit from the confluence of eight natural elements. They have three ranges: Rondekop, Oldenburg vines, and the <CL° range. Tastings include a Library tasting, where you can discover a selection of their older vintages, presented to showcase the aging potential and development of their wines. Bookings are essential

Lanzerac wine estate

Lanzerac needs little introduction since the farm has been around since 1692 and is home to the world’s first bottled Pinotage. So, if that is not a good enough reason to visit this beautiful Stellenbosch icon, then you should visit their sophisticated tasting room where you can enjoy wine and chocolate tasting amongst others.
Though not in the Dwarsrivier Valley, Lanzerac is in Jonkershoek and easily accessible from Helshoogte Pass.
